- 6:l5-7:00 p.m. Meal Group
- 7:l5-8:30 p.m. Group Therapy
This process group, designed to be the core of your recovery process and led by a seasoned group therapist, provides individuals with a safe, supportive environment to examine the underlying issues related to their eating disorders. Each person comes to the group with his or her own set of dynamics–experience, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The group creates a milieu, a mirror of our lives, in which you can give and receive feedback, challenge and be challenged to change destructive behaviors, and learn how to follow through with commitments. The group experience creates connection with others who are struggling with similar problems. Most importantly, you can receive acknowledgement and validation for the progress and changes you make in the direction of recovering from your eating disorder.
This group provides an occasion for participants to eat with each other in various settings with group structure and support. The experience is useful in reducing social anxiety at meal times, adjusting to different food preparation and portion sizes, and making decisions in restaurants. After the meal, participants discuss food/feeling relationships, body image issues, and the physiological experience of hunger and fullness. They have an opportunity to share with specific focus on the nutrition component of their recovery process.
